The Ekiti State Government has denied any involvement in the reported attack on African Action Congress (AAC) presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, at a food outlet in Ado-Ekiti, describing allegations linking the state government to the incident as unfounded.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, the government said it had completely dissociated itself from the incident and called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation to identify those responsible.
The government also questioned the circumstances surrounding Sowore’s visit and the reported altercation, but said it would leave the determination of the facts to the appropriate authorities.

It further dismissed suggestions that the state would sponsor or encourage attacks against political opponents, insisting that Ekiti remained committed to democratic principles, the rule of law and peaceful coexistence.

The government’s reaction comes amid controversy over the incident, following Sowore’s allegation that he and members of his team were attacked by armed thugs in Ado-Ekiti. The police have since announced the arrest of 11 suspects in connection with the incident and confirmed that Sowore and other victims had been treated and discharged from hospital.

The state government reiterated its commitment to protecting residents and visitors, regardless of their political affiliations, and urged the police to ensure that anyone found responsible for the attack is brought to justice.
