ABUJA — The Member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives, Hon. (AVM Rtd.) Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo, has dissociated himself from the invitation of Engr. Toyin Okoro by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Ojuawo, in a statement issued by his media team, described claims linking him to Okoro’s invitation by the anti-corruption agency as false and unfounded.

The lawmaker said he neither initiated, sponsored nor facilitated the invitation, adding that he had no prior knowledge of the development until reports about it began circulating publicly.
According to him, “Hon. Ojuawo has absolutely no connection with the circumstances surrounding Engr. Toyin Okoro’s invitation by the ICPC.”

He said it would be misleading to attribute an official process being handled by an independent government agency to political opponents without credible evidence.
Ojuawo also called for the ICPC to be allowed to carry out its statutory responsibilities without undue politicisation, stressing that any person invited by the Commission should be afforded due process and the opportunity to respond to issues raised by the agency.

The lawmaker further advised Okoro to address any concerns arising from his interaction with the ICPC through appropriate legal and administrative channels rather than linking the matter to him.

He said attempts to associate him with the ICPC invitation could create a misleading political narrative around a matter that, according to him, does not involve him.
Ojuawo urged members of the public and social media users to verify information before circulating allegations capable of damaging the reputation of individuals.

He said political disagreements should not degenerate into personal attacks, character assassination or the circulation of unverified claims.

The federal lawmaker reiterated that he remains focused on his legislative responsibilities and the interests of his constituents in Ekiti South Federal Constituency I.
He called on all concerned to desist from circulating what he described as unfounded allegations linking him to the ICPC invitation of Okoro.

“Political contests should end when the contest ends. They should not become a basis for perpetual hostility or the manufacture of narratives against political opponents,” he said.
Ojuawo reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful and responsible political engagement and to the overall interests of the people of Ekiti South Federal Constituency I.
