The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) branch, has declared an indefinite strike over the failure of the Oyo State Government to implement the 2025 agreement between the union and the federal government.
The union announced that the industrial action would begin at midnight on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and continue until its demands are met, raising fresh concerns about the impact on academic activities and students’ academic calendars.
In a statement issued on Thursday and jointly signed by the branch chairperson, Olujimi Dada, and secretary, Soji Arinola, ASUU said the decision followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management on October 14.
The union explained that it had earlier declared a formal trade dispute over the unresolved issues, with the full backing of its National Executive Council (NEC). However, it said the failure to address its demands had left the branch with no option but to embark on the indefinite strike.
The development puts academic activities at LAUTECH under fresh uncertainty, as students await further developments. The strike, the union said, will remain in force until its demands are met.
