The Ekiti State Police Command has debunked reports alleging that Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, was kidnapped by armed thugs in Ado-Ekiti, saying the activist was rescued after an altercation with some individuals at a restaurant.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the Command said preliminary information indicated that the incident occurred at a restaurant around the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, where Sowore allegedly had an altercation with some individuals. The police said they were immediately alerted and operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene.
According to the Command, Sowore was rescued by the operatives but sustained a minor injury and is currently receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.
The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a discreet investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and disregard reports of an alleged kidnapping, warning against the circulation of unverified information capable of causing panic and tension. The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, irrespective of political affiliation or status.
