It is no longer news that the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria, Ekiti State Council has been enmeshed in series of unfortunate allegations and counter allegations in the past few months.
Some of such spurious allegations especially against the chairman of the state council of the union, Com. Tola Popoola are high-handedness, brazen dishonesty, fraud and manipulation.
It would be recalled that the Financial Secretary and the Treasurer, who are the co-signatories to the union’s bank account have resigned, it remains appalling that the chairman was alleged to have in collaboration with one of the past leaders of the union, Com. Banji Adelusi to manipulate the Union’s bank account, change the signatory at the bank to a non-exco member and monies are still being withdrawn from the account.
In the midst of the damning evidences provided by the erstwhile treasurer Com. Kemi Adeyanju who coincidentally comes from thesame BSES chapter, the State Council Chairman has insisted that she’s not answerable to anyone, not her establishment’s management nor leadership of the union at any level.
In a statement made by her Publicity Secretary, Com. Tosin Bamgbola, the State Council Chairman said she will not respond to anyone on the allegations and whoever is not comfortable with her silence should take any step so desired.
This was in a response to requests by well meaning members of the union and management staff of BSES who feel embarrass by the enomity of the accusations.
Meanwhile some elders of the union contacted waved the unpleasant statement as uncharitable and insisted that both the union and the management of BSES will look into the matter and resolve it soonest.
Members of the union in Ekiti State are eagerly awaiting an amicable resolution of the ongoing crisis and looking forward to having a once peaceful and progressive union restored back to normalcy.
