The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has dismissed claims that he carried a placard in protest against former President Goodluck Jonathan, explaining that the widely circulated photograph was taken during a prayer walk in 2020.
Adeboye gave the clarification during the church’s November Thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 1, accusing some journalists of misrepresenting the circumstances surrounding the photograph and linking it wrongly to Jonathan’s administration.
The cleric admitted carrying the placard but insisted that the exercise was not a political protest. According to him, it was a prayer walk organised following a directive from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for churches to pray against insecurity and killings across the country.
He explained that the exercise took place on February 2, 2020, five years after Jonathan left office in May 2015, when Muhammadu Buhari was president. The placard he carried bore the inscription, “All Souls Are Precious to God.”

Adeboye expressed disappointment that the photograph had been circulated without proper verification, urging journalists and members of the public to investigate the circumstances surrounding information before publishing or sharing it.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God had earlier issued a clarification in June 2026, stating that the photograph was from the 2020 nationwide prayer walk and had no connection with Jonathan’s presidency.
