Gyang James has emerged winner of the fourth edition of the 17.5-kilometre Ikogosi Marathon, following a race that attracted athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia and 28 states across Nigeria.

James, who finished fourth in the previous edition, said his latest victory was the product of intensive preparation and determination. He explained that his disappointment with his earlier performance motivated him to return to training with renewed commitment under the guidance of his coach.

The competition also identified 10 promising athletes from Ekiti State, with plans announced to support their development and provide opportunities for participation in international athletics competitions.

Speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Student Engagement, Sunday Asefon, described the marathon as a platform for discovering young talents and promoting national unity. He urged the Ekiti State Government, particularly the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, to invest in the identified athletes.

The organisers disclosed that this year’s registration reached 14,000 participants, making it the largest edition of the competition so far.
