Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence six new academic programmes, including Criminology, Industrial Mathematics and Information and Communication Technology.
The approval, conveyed in a letter dated October 22, 2026, was signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, Dr Ayuba Mohammed, on behalf of the commission’s Executive Secretary. It followed a resource verification exercise conducted by panels of experts to assess the university’s human and material resources and ensure compliance with national academic standards.
The newly approved programmes are B.A. Christian Theology, B.Sc. Transport Management, B.Sc. Security and Investment Management, B.Sc. Information and Communication Technology, B.Sc. Industrial Mathematics and B.Sc. Criminology.
However, the commission clarified that the approval does not cover part-time studies, adding that the programmes must retain their officially approved names.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, expressed delight and described the approval as a significant step towards advancing the university’s vision of academic excellence and innovation. He also commended Ekiti State Governor and Visitor to the university, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his commitment to the institution’s development and ambition to become globally relevant.
Prospective students interested in the new programmes will be able to apply for admission from the 2027/2028 academic session, according to the university.
