VC Aribisala Warns Students Against Indecent Dressing, Unregistered Groups as FUTES Begins Orientation for Fresh Students.

Education

The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, FUTES, Iyin-Ekiti, has organised a three-day orientation programme for newly admitted students, to provide them with necessary information on the university’s system, rules, regulations and code of conduct.
‎
‎The Orientation Programme is also aimed at educating new students on how to utilise the facilities on campus, academic programmes, support services, and extracurricular activities.
‎
‎During the Programme, Students had the opportunity to interact with the School Registrar, Mr Oluwole Dada, Librarian, Professor Isaac Busayo and Bursar, Mrs Rachel Ajayi and other Resource Persons, as well as other principal officers on the occasion.
‎
‎The students also asked salient questions, and answers were provided in order to have a sense of the university community and enable the new students to familiarise themselves with the university’s academic environment.

‎
‎In his remarks, the FUTES Vice Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Aribisala warned against indecent dressing, night parties, tattoos and other acts that can rob them of their future dreams.
‎
‎Professor Aribisala, who gave the warning while declaring open the three-day Orientation Programme for fresh students who are the pioneer students of the university, said that the university’s campus was strictly for learning and acculturation of good behaviours for future leaders.
‎
‎Represented by one of the Senior Lecturers in the university, Professor Aribisala advised the students to be of good behaviour, eschew all forms of violence, work hard to earn a good grade and embrace academic excellence to be able to rub shoulders with their counterparts in the world of science and technology across the globe.
‎
‎The Vice Chancellor explained that management is always ready to create a conducive learning environment, prioritise their welfare and address whatever issues of concern raised by students irrespective of levels, culture and religion
‎
‎”Your security is our priority, please and please don’t go to night parties, shun occultic groups, unregistered associations or organisations. You are here to learn, face your studies and make your parents and school proud” said Professor Aribisala
‎
‎He told the students that the orientation programme was organised for them to seek clarification where necessary and urged them to be of good conduct

‎
‎Earlier, the Registrar, Mr Oluwole Dada
‎urged the students to remain steadfast in their academic journey and embrace the opportunities presented by the federal government and the University Management to realise their dreams.
‎
‎”The Vice Chancellor has been working hard to ensure that we bring you here.
‎Now that you are here, we already have a university. Because without the students, we have no university, without the teachers, we have no university. Now that you, the students, are here, we have a university”. The university, like I was saying earlier, is a community within a community. What happens inside here does not necessarily translate to what we have in Ekiti Town, because we have rules which are quite different from those of society.”
‎
‎Mr Oluwole Dada further said, “What are rules? They are just guidelines. Don’t do this. Do this. This is the way to go and it covers the university system. It covers a wide range of topics, but you may not be able to have everything today, until we can give you what we call the student’s handbook.
‎
‎”Inside the student’s handbook, all the information you need, all the rules you will ever need for your student here, will be contained there. So if you flout any of the rules be sure that there will be consequences. I’m not here to threaten you. I’m only telling you, so when you are in Rome, you behave like Romans. So when you are a university undergraduate, you are expected to behave like an undergraduate” said the Registrar.
‎
‎Mr Dada emphasised the importance of academic commitment, saying that the management would not allow any wish-wash and charged them to embrace the spirit of unity, saying that the university serves as a vehicle for growth, research, and meaningful development.
